OVERVIEW AND CONTEXT

This report is an OECD review of Denmark's educational Research and Development (R&D) policy and system.

R&D Review: Denmark

This report aims to assess how well the system serves its purpose of creating, distributing, and applying knowledge that can benefit educators and policymakers. The primary focus is on how well the system supports innovative learning environments in the education system, including its impact on teachers, daily teaching, and learning practices.

The report recognizes that the knowledge available to teachers and policymakers doesn't come solely from scientific research but also from the experience of reflective teachers, administrative actions like monitoring and evaluation programs, and educational statistics and indicators. This OECD review underscores the significance of diverse knowledge sources in shaping decisions within the education system.

Education: Transends Condition for Innovation Framework

Transcend believes that to create great and fair learning environments, communities need to create the right conditions for coming up with new ideas. They call these conditions the 5C's, which are conviction, clarity, capacity, coalition, and culture.

These conditions are like the soil where you plant the seeds for building a school or a new education model and making it work in different places. Because these 5C's are so important for research and development, Transcend suggests that communities should always think about how to make these conditions even better.

They provide a table that explains each of the 5C's in more detail with examples. Transcend thinks each community should set their own goals and ways to measure success for these conditions as they work on their projects.

Leadership: The Public Service of the Future

In 1942, Leonard White edited a collection of essays by leading figures in public administration, predicting the future of public service over the next 20 years.

It anticipates changes in entry-level management, public-private partnerships, wage and salary structures, retirement systems, and accountability structures to attract talent and empower public servants.

The retirement of the Baby Boom generation is expected to create new demand and opportunities, and demographic, social, political, and technological changes may lead to a revalued and restructured public service.
